Aiken is a very unique town which strikes a nice balance between being a resort area, focusing on horses, golf and tennis and those that work and raise their families here. The village has many fine golf communities, a superb park system and can offer equestrian facilities second to none. The Hitchcock Woods, a 2000 acre preserve is used for riding, driving and seasonal fox hunting. There are facilities throughout the county for year round hunter and jumper shows, combined training events and dressage competitions. There are three training tracks for race horses and three polo fields within the city of Aiken and over thirty polo fields in the county. The geographic location of Aiken is also a great reason to live here. One can be on the beach at Hilton Head or at Edisto Beach in 2 1/2 hours. Motorcycle to the Smoky Mountains and camp on the Blue Ridge Parkway in less than 3 hours or Kayak on one of the many rivers or lakes in the area.
